Yoga anywhere
for anyone
About Jonquil Yoga
We love yoga. We love the outdoors. And, we believe yoga is for anyone and can be done anywhere.
Jonquil Yoga strives to help individuals find balance, self-awareness and well-being through yoga by combining asana, physical postures; pranayama, breathing techniques; and meditation or mindfulness, the calming of the mind.
We offer yoga classes online and in outdoor spaces that are accessible wherever you may be in your journey.
Our classes are rooted in the Hatha-style of yoga and include Vinyasa Flow, Gentle, Vin-Yin, Yin, and Restorative.
In addition to sharing the gift of yoga, we seek ways to give back to and support our local community and organizations.
What does Jonquil mean and why the name?

A Jonquil is a yellow or white flower that blooms in the Spring. It’s part of the same family or genus as daffodils. It has many meanings, but the meanings that took hold for me are those of friendship, rebirth, and good fortune. Jonquils are native to Spain and Portugal but are now commonly found in many regions around the world including the Southeast United States.
And here in Smyrna, we are known as the Jonquil City. Jonquils bloom readily in the Spring and specifically in Smyrna from tradition of sharing the bulbs with friends and neighbors.
Read more about how Smyrna became the Jonquil City.
Having lived in Smyrna for over 14 years. It’s the longest place I’ve called home. You could say I’ve taken root. It’s a place of community, parks, and friendly faces and neighbors. It’s also where I began the next chapter in my yoga journey becoming a registered yoga teacher in Spring-Summer of 2020 through the Giving Tree School of Yoga.
Neither the Jonquil nor myself are native to the City of Smyrna. But, the combination of stories about friendship and giving, a place where I’ve called home for so long, the countless hours and walks in its parks, along with my personal yoga journey just made the name Jonquil Yoga feel right. And so, the name stuck.
Like jonquils were shared with friends and neighbors to bloom and bring life each spring, I'm now ready to share the gift of yoga with you, so you may take root and bloom.

Hi! I’m Melissa Vidakovic. Sometimes my friends and family call me Mel or Mo.
I’ve been practicing yoga for 20 years starting my yoga journey in a community class twice a week during college. Up until the last few years, I had an on-again, off-again relationship with yoga. But, I always found my way back to the mat looking for stress relief and a place I could go inward and restore.
When my job was causing an increasing amount of stress and anxiety, I knew I needed to take care of myself. I began practicing yoga more regularly and started focusing on breathing techniques and meditation. As I transitioned jobs, I found lingering and new stress manifesting itself in unfamiliar ways throughout my body. Over the years, I viewed yoga as a tool to help me find balance, but it was now something more. It was a way to find ease with the uncomfortable and a path to heal.
During this time, I found myself wanting to deepen my personal practice and share yoga with others.
And so, I began exploring teacher training.
In 2020, I completed my 200-hour training with Christy Newsome, E-RYT500, of Kind Heart Yoga, and Melissa Lopez, RYT500, of Giving Tree Yoga + Wellness in Smyrna, GA. My training covers Hatha-based yoga and is inclusive of a strong emphasis on anatomy to ensure the safety and well-being of my students as well as a deep understanding of yoga philosophy.
I am an advocate that yoga is for anyone and can be done anywhere. My approach to teaching is one based on mindfulness. I encourage students to bring awareness to their practice and listen to their body and what they need in the moment. I enjoy incorporating breath work and meditation into my classes and teach a variety of yoga styles from yin and gentle to vinyasa.
When not on the mat, I enjoy cooking, trying to garden, and love being outdoors and in nature.
